Our Learning
In Primary 1 our classrooms are designed to balance structured lessons with purposeful play, ensuring the children remain engaged and motivated with a wide range of learning opportunities. In literacy, we develop our knowledge of phonics by learning single letter sounds and diagraphs. We blend these together to read words and segment them to spell them. Our writing is linked closely to our class topics which allows the children to build confidence in expressing their ideas. In numeracy, we explore numbers through formations, ordering and representing values. Other mathematical concepts such as symmetry, pattern, money, time and fractions are also some of the areas we focus on throughout the year. Our topics include Katie Morag through which children explore and discover different areas of Scotland. We also explore seasonal themes such as Spring, planting and growing, helping them to make connections between their learning and the world around them. Outdoor learning is embedded within our curriculum where children are engaged with literacy, numeracy and wider curricular areas.
