Forces and Me 💜
Forces & Me is a special group at Hermitage Primary School, led by Jo Lee Good & Madeline Paton, supported by Emer Flett, which provides a welcoming and supportive space for pupils who have family links to the Armed Forces. The group celebrates the unique experiences of our Armed Forces families and helps pupils build friendships and a sense of belonging with others who share similar connections.
Throughout the year, Forces & Me runs age-appropriate lunchtime clubs, end-of-term parties and a range of special events and activities. One of our highlights is our annual ‘Purple Up’ day, which helps to raise awareness and visibility of Armed Forces families across our whole school community.
Through Forces & Me, we aim to ensure that every pupil feels recognised, valued, supported and proud of their family connections to the Armed Forces. 💜
Resources
The Armed Forces families section within the Education and Learning area of the Argyll and Bute Council website has been updated.
This now includes information and resources for:
- Families moving to the area – guidance and information to help make the transition as smooth as possible.
- Families currently living in Argyll and Bute – including access to a dedicated Google Drive containing useful resources and information.
- Children and Young People – information about the Armed Forces Ambassadors programme, Forces & Me Clubs, and videos designed to help children and young people prepare for moving to Helensburgh and settling into their new school and community.
- Schools and Early Years settings – information on supporting children and young people from Armed Forces families, along with training and webinar opportunities for education staff.
- The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust – information about the funding awarded to support serving Armed Forces children and young people in schools across Helensburgh & Lomond during 2025 – 2027, including the projects and initiatives being delivered through this funding.
- Partner organisations – details of organisations that provide support to Armed Forces children, young people and their families.
